Welcome to Team Naptown's March Madness 2003 Contest!!!!
Directions:
Most of you know how this works. The brackets go up with the matchups for the first round. You pick the winners of each of those games, and continue through the brackets until you eventually predict the national champion. Each game for which you predict the correct victor earns you points. For this contest, we will be using the scoring system from The Sporting News website.
The scoring system is designed to give you more points per correct pick as the rounds progress, but to keep you in the mix should a key team you picked get knocked out early. Bonus points will also be rewarded for picking upsets correctly along the way.
Scoring system:
| Round | Correct Pick Value |
| First Round | 1 point |
| Second Round | 2 points |
| Sweet Sixteen | 4 points |
| Great Eight | 8 points |
| Final Four | 16 points |
Championship | 32 points |
| Bonus Pick | Correct Pick Value |
| 9th seed win | 1 extra point |
| 10th seed win | 2 extra points |
| 11th seed win | 3 extra points |
| 12th seed win | 4 extra points |
| 13th seed win | 5 extra points |
| 14th seed win | 6 extra points |
| 15th seed win | 7 extra points |
| 16th seed win | 8 extra points |
The individual with the highest points resulting from this system will win the first place prize. In the case of a point-level tie, the combined score for the final that you predicted will be used as a tie-breaker. If there is STILL a tie, the prize will be split evenly between the winners.
Submission: There are three mechanisms for submitting your picks.
1) Fill out the online form by clicking HERE
2) Print out a form HERE, fill it in and get it to a member of Team Naptown prior to first round tip-off (Wednesday before noon).
3) Fll out any bracket or get one from a team member and get it back to them prior to tip-off for the first round games.
4) A PO Box will be set up for mailing shortly. If you plan on mailing payment for an on-line entry, please enter that in the comments field for your entry.
Note: For any submission, FOUR pieces of information are necessary.
1) YOUR name. This will be how we identify the winners to get them the prize money.
2) A team name that will represent your team for tracking purposes on the website. If this is not included, your name will be used.
3) Your e-mail address. This is the easiest and most convenient way for any discrepencies or problems that may arise to be handled. Any website submissions will receive confirmations to the e-mail address listed. If this is not received, e-mail webmaster@teamnaptown.com as quickly as possible.
4) The total points that you expect to be scored in the finals. If this is omitted, you will lose any tie-breaker.
Cost: Entry fee for this contest is $10, due prior to tip-off of the first round games
The entry fee can be given to any team member, as can any hard copy entry. If you give any member money, please include this information with your bracket submission or in a separate e-mail to the webmaster. In addition, if you are physically unable to get the money to a team member, a PO Box will be set up to which any checks or money orders can be sent. If this is the option you choose, please e-mail the webmaster with your name, your team name and your e-mail address. The mailing address will be promptly e-mailed to you.
Point totals for any team will not be posted on the website untilthat team's entry fee has been received. All entries for which fees are not received by the Sweet Sixteen will be considered null and void.
Prizes: The highest point total as defined above will win 90% of all entry fees. Second Place will win 5% of entry fees or $25, whichever is higher and the individual with the lowest point total will receive their entry fee back.
Various notes:
The play-in game is not included in this contest
Current score totals will be updated the day following any day that games are played. For the championship game, scores will be updated by noon the next day
Please try to copy the names of the teams exactly as they appear on the selection page if you are submitting by website. Every effort will be made to correct any errors, but some may slip through the cracks.
Monitor your score as the tournament progresses to make certain that an error in entry or computation has not occurred
Be sure to keep a copy of your picks. This can be done by filling out a hard copy first, which can be downloaded from the link above and printed, then transferring that to the online entry form or by printing out the page that comes up after you submit your entries.
Please enter an accurate e-mail address in case there are any questions about your entries.
Enjoy!!!!!!
