This one is a real stinker of a film. The problems abound, but I will only address a few here. First and foremost, it is exceedingly predictable. You know going in that Kiefer Sutherland is in it, but as the movie is wrapping up, he has not yet appeared. So WHERE could he be? Abundantly obvious. Second, Forest Whitaker plays a lead role. He is quite possibly the worst actor ever to appear on screen. Britney Spears is a fine thespian when placed next to him. That's right, thespian. Third, I think Colin Farrell is a great actor with a huge future, but he was not right for this role. The New York accent sort of came and went, he overacted at times, etc...
So, those are the basic problems with the film. Well, there is one more. The premise is horrible. Absolutely amazing that some executive thought it would be a good idea to make this film. The only reason I can see for doing it is that it must have cost practically nothing to make, as almost everything takes place around the *duh-duh-duh* phone booth. The relationships between the characters are horribly developed as well. Take Forest and the "mediator". They dislike each other, but this is never developed, just sort of thrust upon the viewer. The relationship between Farrell and his wife is flat as well. Just nothing to it.
Well, that was a little more complaining than I intended. So, let me try to think of something good to say about this film. Thinking.... Well, it was mercifully short at 1 hr and 20 minutes. That's about it. Oh yeah, something else that sucked. The split-screen shots. A complete pain in the ass.
So, I can sum it up with one statement. This is the worst movie ever. Yep, that's right. A Perfect Storm? Better than this load. Pulp Fiction? A fine film next to this failure. So, don't see it. Don't even get it on video. Let's pretend this never happened. |
